I've been trying to be calm and apolitical for two months, as some of you may have noticed. Let's say that I chose to do so for my health. But it simply didn't last, the bullshit level is well over my head and I'm about to snap

What I love is that all of the Indians at the reservation near Siren own SUVs. My 'Native' friend Teena owns an Aztec, and her big brother bought your favorite H2. She claims it's because they need four wheel drive to get up their driveway in the winter, but that's total bullshit. And there are four-wheel drive cars, too. But back to the point, I love Indians who care about environment! Their culture is so rich! I swear dude, ALL of them own SUVs. I shit you not. You go to their gas station (my former employer) and it's like an OPEC-sponsored car lot.
If I were to speculate about why the Indians own SUVs, I would suggest that it is their fascination with black culture. The indians try their damnest to simulate and immitate hip-hop culture. The whole trend started ten or twelve years ago and ever since, Teena knows the lineup of BET's "Midnight Love" by heart, and one of my students (at the summer school) made a comment, "I guess white people use the word 'pimp' now." I laughed heartily at him. From basketball jerseys to "For Love of the Game" soundtracks to the use of the word "ghetto" (for people who capitalize heavily on both marijuana sales and on casino per capita checks), it's the most confusing confusion of cultures since wiggers and Hmong B-Boys.
So, stick your feathers in your hair and show your bling bling, and turn Jay-Z up in your Escalade, and let's all have a grand old American time.
Heh, oh YES, the Indians are SO in tune with nature and spirituality. Like hell; I remember all your stories about these people shouting about their welare checks and casino money and whatnot. The closest the culture come to being in tune with spirits is spirits in the Jack Daniels/ bourbon/gin sense of the word.
