Brian Burke isn't just a legend of the NHL. He's a fists-up, knock-your-teeth-out gladiator. But when his hockey-loving son came out of the closet and died soon after, he was thrust into a strange new role: advocate for gays in a macho sports culture. He's no cheerleader-he looks like he hates every minute of it-but locker-room homophobia may have finally met its match.
The season finale of Psych was last evening and...
I don't know. I feel like they could have tied up that storyline in a much more fluid way. The Yin being Yang's daughter was very Dexter-season-4 to me, so perhaps that's why it felt... wrong.
And I can't be the only one who called Mina Suvari's role from the first time she appeared on screen. Half of the episode was entirely too predictable and the other half felt very phoned-in, as though they just wanted this particular arc completed.
I don't know. Favorite part though? Lassie's face in the very last scene. Priceless.
I wonder what this means about the partnership between Lassie and Jules. Will he feign that he was overtired? Will he act differently around Shawn? I think that's the aspect I'm most excited for, next season. The partnership dynamic between Lassieface and Jules.
BECAUSE THEY'RE SO FANTASTIC TOGETHER...

vt_graphics I feel as though I'm talking about field hockey too much lately. But oy, we have two games back to back next Tuesday. That should be fun.
I'm getting back on the wall today after two hectic weeks off of it, and I'm already sore all over, so I'm guessing that this isn't going to go well. Plus, I haven't trimmed my nails in those two weeks so all hope of having any good grips is, well, fleeting.
Now, the Patriots. I'm not worried about them this week (though I kind of should be, considering how they played against the Packers...) because they're playing the Bills who are 4 and 10. But, you never know. And next week it's the Bears who are 10-4. Both of these games are crucial, so I'm hoping the defense can get their ducks in a row and maybe Brady won't be sacked eleventy billion times.
Though I think the sacks are somehow related to his hair, and he can't adequately see the field with all of that in his face.
And I feel like mentioning that I've been on a David Lynch kick lately. It all happened after rewatching Eraserhead. I thought to myself, "It's been years since I've seen an episode of Twin Peaks. I wonder if it's still as amazing as I thought it was when I was little" And so I rewatched it. And it was. And now I feel the need to rewatch Blue Velvet
Alone.
Mostly so that people can't see me shudder when MacLachlan finds the ear.
Any other Lynch fans on my friends list? I'd be interested to know.
For day 23 of my
holiday fic advent.

CJ/Danny, "California/getting off the plane"
She misses it before they’ve landed. For a split second, she imagines herself telling him that it’s over, that they have to go back, that it’s where they belong.
Not just her, the both of them.
Danny’s hand curls around hers, as it’s learned to do on descent. CJ’s a good flier, she’s not that good of a flier. And it’s this, that he knows instinctively about her, how to be around her, what to do, this is why she wants to stay with him.
But she’s not sure she wants to stay in California. She missed it when she moved out to D.C., but after a very short while, the East Coast had felt right. It'd felt like home...
The captains scratchy voice makes itself known over the intercom. Fasten seat belt, prepare for landing, et cetera, et cetera and no ma'am, you cannot get up to use the restroom, we will be landing shortly.
The altitude shifts and her ears block up and she's always hated this part most. But Danny pulls her arm alongside his, holds for a moment and then slides an arm along her shoulders.
Comfort. The man knows just how to comfort.
C.J. takes a breath and says nothing, doesn't move, as the plane lands with a few bumps on the runway. Her heart skips along with them, along with the dull thumpthumpthump of rubber hitting tarmac at god knows how many miles her hour.
Passengers move in a flurry, and Danny stands, steps over her to grab their luggage from the overhead compartment.
"You're okay," he says, doesn't ask, with the warmest smile she's ever seen.
And maybe she is. Maybe just, maybe she is.
"Yeah, let's just, I need to get off this plane."
And they do.
They step out and are met with... California.
...I got to play spy last evening/try a Five Guys burger for the first time with some very cool people. I love that my friends have such interesting people in their lives.
BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
Here's a really nice piece about Troy and Abed from 'Community'. Lub! ♥
