an early friday night
it's now 5:44 pm and i'm just getting up. granted, i went to sleep around 5:30 am, but it's still odd to wake up as the sun is setting.
last night was a strange night, surreal. but perhaps that was due to the amount of alcohol and the fact that i was in the same part of town i usually hang out in but down completely new streets to be at some completely new places i never even knew existed.
i combined friends from a few different places into one group and they all got along smashingly. there was netally who i know from friday night dinner. it was her birthday. she brought a friend from her university. we met up with some of my swing dancing friends. and we finally located my friend louie, who i know from 80s night, who was wandering the street trying to find our meeting location. he taught me how to play the dice game that the chinese play here as a drinking game. once i got the hang of it, i was winning like mad.
then we ran into a couple friends from france. ironically, i had no plans to go to 80s night. i didn't even know that it was on last night. yet, i ended up there anyway and had a blast. edouard followed us to our next destination and for the first time in years i was trying to resurrect my french. it is truly pathetic how much i cannot remember. i seem to remember phrases better than verbs.
i just love meeting people from all different countries who speak so many different languages. in our conversation, i was trying to remember my french to speak to ed but sometimes hebrew would come out. netally understand my hebrew because her parents are israeli even though she grew up in germany. ed wanted to practice his german, so he was speaking to netally in german. plus there was lots of english in there as well. it was so much fun!
if it hadn't been for the cockroach crawling up the wall where we went for food, the night would have ended smashingly as well.
