THE DEVIL AND MS. TIBBS
There was a woman who, at times,
For lack of thinking through it,
Often exclaimed, after the fact,
“The devil made me do it!”
The devil heard these words one day,
And went to pay a visit
On this woman who so proclaimed
That because of him she did it.
First, as he walked the paths of Hell,
He gathered up some imps,
And he let them out to play for a while,
Disguising them as chimps.
But imps are naughty little devils,
And wouldn’t do his bidding.
This angered the devil and he cursed the woman
With ends that were always splitting.
The devil had a naughty plan;
He’d bend her to his will;
He’d divide the right out of the wrong,
And turn her good to ill.
Then, he thought, he’d have a queen
To vacume all his palace
And clean the soot from the ceilings
And polish every knob and chalice.
The devil grinned as he knocked on her door,
And made his case quite plain-
Whereupon, she slammed the door in his face
Because he brought no diamond ring.
