[Private to Dick.]

[Chuck claps his hands once, then rubs them together. This'll be fun to explain; not like he hasn't done it often enough already, with Awesome and Morgan and Ellie and dad...]

Okay, short version. Basically...there's this process that can encode data into images. Subliminal data. You see the picture, you know the info. The government was using this computer called the Intersect to make all these connections with the information they fed into it.

[And here's where it gets awkward.]

So, uh, remember when I mentioned Bryce? He's the guy who sent me the secrets. He destroyed the original computer because bad guys were going to steal it and I saw all the pictures and all the data's in my head. Then they realized that a person with the Intersect could be a weapon...so they made a new version with all these skills programmed into it. Like kung fu. And shooting. And tango. And probably underwater basket-weaving.

For obvious reasons that means that people are always trying to find out who the Intersect is. And capture me. Or use me. Or kill me. So even though I'm pretty sure there isn't anybody I know on board, it's still not really the kind of thing I'd want getting out.

[Chuck shrugs.]

So yeah.

[This was far from the weirdest thing Dick had ever heard, especially when it came to "origin stories", and as such, the explanation didn't really faze or confuse him in the slightest.]

Underwater basket weaving?

It's got a bunch of random skills, is what I'm saying. Hell, I could be an expert mechanic and not even know it.

Well, at least it gave you the skills to defend yourself?

Yeah, did I mention I didn't get that update for two years? In the meantime I was just a giant, walking target.

[It had been quite a day overall. Ellie's wedding, Bryce's death, and downloading the new Intersect...]
