Visiting Hours

It’s not as sterile as it should be
sitting on the bottom step
of the first floor,
you’re waiting and you notice
the dust and dirt,
it should bother you but it doesn’t,
there are other things to think about
and it’s not like before,
with blood on your sleeves,
this is better, you are better.
These visiting hours will come and go
quicker than any other time
you’ve sat in a hospital,
holding on to what makes you happy
this time wrapped up in pink and white.
