Ooh. I'm reading this and liking it. The narrative flows well, and the AU is an intriguing AU, fleshed out and realistic in its own way; it holds its own next to the fanon universe, which is what good AUs do (though we all love the fun of AUs like "What if Jack and James were COWBOYS OMG cowboys are hawt.")

A moment for my own stupidity: Despite your author note of "AU like woah" is hadn't occurred to me that James wouldn't be a Commodore. I had assumed that the story could fit before the canon timeline, during the ten years when Jack is without the Black Pearl. Heh. So I was a bit surprised when the geographer introduced himself. But as the scene continued he was so quintessentially James that my silly mistake resolved itself completely.

OK, I'm off to read the next chapters-- I commented on this one because I plan to leave feedback at every chapter so you get to see my evolving responses as the story evolves. And also, if I forget or get lazy, then at least you have something.
