Hooray for poker winnings!
Well, I played some poker tonight with some of the guys. I was the big winner tonight! We played for a couple of hours; mostly 5 card stud, but also some 7 card no-peek. There were about 5-6 playing most of the time. I was the big winner tonight, $6 in quarters, dimes and nickels! I know it's not exactly high stakes, but I'll take anything I can get at the moment.
After the game of poker, my buddy gave me a belated birthday gift: a bottle of Jack Daniel's Single Barrel! This is my favorite booze, but at like $47 a bottle I rarely (read: once every couple of years) buy it. We both enjoyed a small glass of JD single barrel on the rocks; it was quite tasty.
On the jobsearch: I found out today that a friend of mine is working on getting me an interview with a school in norther Virginia. The position would be in the financial aid department at a university. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I should know sometime this week if I'll have a shot at it. It's hard to believe that I've been unemployed since Feb 27, 2009. On a related note, the unemployment rate for the state of Florida is now at 11.5%. So, I'm in the same boat as over 1 million other Floridians.
All in all this weekend was a good one. I said good bye to a crappy year, and hello to a fresh start in 2010 (and $6.00)!
