The Parting Glass

Jan 24, 2005 06:37

There is an old Irish folk song, that when sung at the end of the movie "Waking Ned Devine" reduced me to a Sarah puddle (even though the movie wasn't THAT sad)

Oh, all the money ever I had
I spent it in good company
And all the harm ever I done
Alas it was to no one but me
And all I've done for want of wit
My memory now I can't recall
So fill for me the parting glass
Goodnight and joy be with you all

Oh all the comrades ever I had
They're sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts ever I had
They wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls into my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I gently rise and softly call
Goodnight and joy be with you all
