i need to complain, just randomly:
RECENTLY it has come to my attention that there is ANOTHER dub version available of the movie My Neighbor Totoro. It's done by Disney. The "original" dub is done by Fox - that's the one I FIRST saw.
How can ANYONE possibly COMPLAIN about the Disney version? I actually read the words "DISNEY RUINED THIS MOVIE."
What the.....WHAAATT??
I never thought I would ever say these words but: DISNEY DID A REALLY GOOD JOB!
The Disney version is BETTER and just the BEST version simply because: IT IS THE MOST ACCURATE! Plain and simple. What could anyone POSSIBLY be complaining about? If it's a PERSONAL taste issue of the voice actresses, you're gonna need to let that go because that is NOT a good reason. Personally, I LIKE the Fanning sisters vs. Cheryl Chase/ Angelica - freaking - Pickles screeching at me through out the whole movie.
I have to put disclaimer here that I tested both versions against the SUBBED version (*YOU* get a life!) Because I don't speak Japanese, I have no choice but to trust that the subbed version is the most accurate version. So that's where I'm getting my opinions from.
Here's the problems with the Fox version that the DIsney version doesn't have at ALL:
~ I found it annoying that they were *mispronouncing* Satsuki's name through out the whole movie.
~ IT felt like BOTH the girls were just SCREAMING and SHRIEKING through the whole film. ....why? There wasn't nearly that much yelling in the subbed/ original version.
~ THEY MADE UP UNNECESSARY DIALOG WHERE THERE WAS NONE that, in my opinion, took away from the context of the scene and meaning of what was being said. Or it was just a "bit much."
~ They dubbed some scenes with INACCURATE -- INACCURATE!!! -- DIALOG that REALLY messed up the context of things.
Okay to be perfectly fair: There WAS some dialog that the Disney version "took liberties with" that the Fox version handled better, but it wasn't anything significant.
And there was a scene towards the end that BOTH VERSIONS dubbed inaccurately (why??) but....considering everything else, I can forgive that. I don't even remember what it was so I can't write out the dialog.
