If you've got a little girl in your life -- a daughter, niece, little cousin, friend's daughter, etc. -- you should check out these videos, then buy the toys. :D

(but don't read the comments over on YouTube, oh my God, so much negativity)

GoldieBlox is now in Toys R Us! And in Ontario, GoldieBlox is in plenty of Mastermind Toy locations.

ION, I was over at my friends' house last night because I hadn't seen their kids in a while, and I finally had an evening free. Wow, kids sure change quickly! The oldest girl is performing in cello concerts (where she wins "good participation" awards, but that's fine) and she will be starting Grade 1 French Immersion in the fall. The boy is shooting up like a weed, struggling to learn his letters, and motormouths like nobody's business. He's such an adorable cuddle-monkey, and I will secretly admit he's kind of my favourite. The baby girl keeps staring at me like she doesn't know what to make of me--probably because I haven't been around often enough for her to feel comfortable with me, but I also think she's naturally more suspicious than the two older kids ever were. She's almost at 16 months and apparently knows the word "octopus".

My friend and I went shopping last Saturday and both spent more than we probably should have, given our relatively restrictive budgets. But wow, I actually looked good in that dress! I'm not really good at describing clothes as I lack the vocabulary of fashion, but hers was knee-length and... constructed? Tight, anyway, or close-fitted. White down her front and back, but black down her sides, so it gave her a slimming silhouette. In comparison, my dress had a flowy knee-length skirt, high waist with a bit of scrunched up material (ruching?) at the waist and diagonally down one shoulder, along the asymmetrical neckline. Also black and white--black with white polkadots, and it's adorable. :D
