Tony Stark/Bruce Banner = GEEK LOVE

GUYS. I'm seriously tempted to start shipping Tony/Bruce. What happened is that I watched the new German trailer for The Avengers and now it's like ... (Do I need a spoiler warning for the German trailer? Okay, spoiler warning!)

...Tony trolling Bruce ALL DAY LONG would be the best thing ever. Bruce would be all .___. on the outside, and yet secretly LOVING that Tony shows no fear on the inside. Because everyone walks on eggshells around Bruce, like he's a time-bomb (heh) waiting to go off. They want him contained, they want him under control. But Tony? Tony doesn't care--he's gonna poke Bruce with a sharp stick just to see what happens. FOR SCIENCE.

I also really like that Steve seems protective of Banner. And that Natasha's the one to bring him in.

My indifference towards Bruce and Clint has likely been a result of (1) just not knowing these characters (I haven't seen either Hulk movies); (2) not seeing how they fit in with the characters that I do know, e.g., Tony, Steve, Natasha, etc. The whole Clint/Coulson thing is a mystery to me, so that doesn't count. We only get to know Clint in relation to Coulson, which is a rather backwards way of doing things.

It's different coming to The Avengers when I have little background in Marvel comics. If this were a Justice League movie, I would have OPINIONS. I adore most of the DCU, or at least like them, or if I hate a character it's because of reasons. With the Marvel Movieverse, I just don't know enough about Bruce, Clint, Coulson, Bucky, and even Fury (they better flesh him out, is all I'm saying) to know WHY I'm supposed to give a damn, only that I should.

Like, I still think of Jeremy Renner as the vampire Penn from that Angel episode? Hawkeye in the comics seems to have more in common with Dick Grayson than my beloved Green Arrow. I'm totally in the dark with him. And Bucky is like Jason Todd, but not really? OTOH, maybe this is what happens when a fandom emerges before the movie even comes out! Thankfully, the trailers have given me a better handle on Bruce Banner/Hulk. (Though I could swear I used to read Hulk comics or watch a Hulk cartoon when I was a kid. Something.)

Anyway. At this point, I'm shipping a whole lot of Avengers pairings: Steve/Tony, Tony/Natasha, Clint/Darcy, Steve/Darcy, Tony/Darcy (kind of), Thor/Jane, Steve/Natasha, Steve/Peggy, Steve/Howard, Steve/Angel Salvadore (really, Steve with a whole bunch of people) and now Tony/Bruce!

Little guys with big brains ftw!
