Five favourite TV shows meme

Jul 04, 2011 17:40

Pick your five favourite TV shows (in no particular order) and answer the following questions about them. Don't cheat! Snagged from shadadukal, only I didn't pick just TV shows. Instructions: I don't read them, even when they're only two sentences long.

1. DC Comics
2. Highlander
3. Stargate Atlantis
4. Harry Potter
5. Stargate SG-1

Who is your favourite character in 2?
Highlander. Duncan MacLeod. It's tough to choose between Duncan and Methos, but Highlander wouldn't be Highlander without our hero. He's good and honest and strong and true, and he's arrogant and judgmental and occasionally hypocritical. He's smart and cunning and a survivor, though perhaps not quite as jaded as our Old Man. He's an incredibly nuanced character and the furthest thing from "boring".

Who is your least favourite character in 1?
DC Comics. Jason Todd. It's not that I hate Jason, because I don't really know him enough to hate him, but that I don't really understand/enjoy the point of his character now that he's back among the living. I came to comics when Tim was Robin, Dick was Nightwing, and Jason was dead. Even though I've since embraced Steph as Robin, then later as Batgirl, and I'm grudgingly amused by Damian Wayne (while still hating the concept of "Batman's son", because wtf, being a Bat has never been about biology, JFC Amanda Waller frickin "Epilogue" grrrr), it still breaks my brain a little that Jason is running around, not being dead, instead of being a symbol and a Robin suit in a glass case.

Plus, Red Hood is the type of character I enjoy the least. I have very little patience for bitter vengeful rebels. But hey, maybe I have him all wrong. It's not like I've read much with him in it.

What's your favourite episode of 4?
Harry Potter. It's a tie between Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows! PoA is probably the best constructed of all the HP books, and the movie was gorgeous, but DH is the culmination of Harry's journey and it made me cry a hundred times. If I'm going to read post-war fic, I prefer it to be DH-compliant and even Epilogue-compliant. I can't wait for the last movie to come out. Only 11 more days!

What is your favourite season of 5?
Stargate SG-1. Ooh, that's a tough one. Season 4 was probably the "best" season, objectively, with the fewest crappy/pointless eps, but my favourite for re-watching is probably Season 10 because we got Cam and Vala. What can I say? SG-1 v2.0 was so much fun. :D

What's your favourite ship in 3?
Stargate Atlantis. John/Ronon.

Who is your anti-ship in 2?
Highlander. Methos/Richie. Every time I run across a Methos/Richie fic, I stop to laugh and laugh and laugh.

How long have you watched 1?
DC Comics. I... don't know how to answer this question. I started buying comics on a regular basis in 2004, followed War Games and Identity Crisis, then stopped not long after Infinite Crisis. In two years I bought a lot of Young Justice, Superboy, Impulse, and Robin. I bought trades of JLA, Green Arrow, and Birds of Prey. I bought No Man's Land, Hush, and Batgirl: Year One. I still visit my local comics store to find trades that have been recommended to me: I keep searching for All-Star Superman (to no avail) and for the Stephanie Brown Batgirl books.

How did you become interested in 3?
Stargate Atlantis. Easy! I already liked SG-1 and fandom had been a-buzz over the spin-off. A friend generously burned Season 1 on CD so I could catch up on it during the hiatus. While I drifted away mid-Season 2, I came back in Season 5 and stayed for quite a while. My interest has waned in the last few months, but I'm not done with SGA just yet.

Who is your favourite actor in 4?
Harry Potter. Daniel Radcliffe. Which is saying a lot, considering the top-notch actors involved in the HP movie franchise! But Dan has embodied Harry since childhood. We've seen him grow as an actor and as a young man, the same way we've watched his character grow and become a hero.

Which show do you prefer out of 1, 2, or 5?
DC Comics, Highlander, or Stargate SG-1. If I had to pick one canon to save from being thrown into a black hole, never to be seen again, it would definitely have to be DC Comics. Could we really live in a world without Superman or Batman or Wonder Woman? I think not.

Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3?
DC Comics or Stargate Atlantis. I've read and watched more DC Comics products than there are episodes of Stargate Atlantis. Not really a fair question, though.

If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?
Harry Potter. Hermione Granger, probably.

How would you kill off your favourite character in 2?
Highlander. I'd drop him off a tall building. But it's okay, he'll get better. *g*

Give a random quote from 1.
DC Comics.
Superman: We're surrounded, you know. I can *hear* them all.
Batman: I think we can take them. Do you think we can take them?
Superman: You *always* think we can take them.
Batman: Yes. I do.
Superman: Then, let's do it.

Would a 3/4 crossover work?
Stargate Atlantis/Harry Potter. It'd be tricky mixing science and magic in a way that respected the mythology of both canons, but it's workable. Hermione could be trying to stretch the distances a Portkey can cover and accidentally land herself in Atlantis. At least it's not SGA/DC Comics, which would have to acknowledge that Batman, Superman, etc, are fictional characters in the Gateverse.

Pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely, but strangely okay couple.
DC Comics. You know, I can ship Bruce/Wally and Clark/Ollie without breaking my brain, but only when I use the DCAU and SV versions of the characters, respectively. With comics canon? Could you imagine the sheer WTFness of Bruce/Wally and Clark/Ollie? o.O

One pairing that might be okay is Martha Kent (now widowed) and Alfred Pennyworth. I have no idea how they'd conduct such a long-distance relationship, but if I can believe Kon and Tim can make it work, so can Martha and Alfred.

Overall, which show has a better cast, 3 or 5?
Stargate Atlantis or Stargate SG-1. Ooh, not fair! As much as I love Joe Flanigan, I have to give it to the SG-1 guys. They were quite a bit better from the start, and while RDA got tired near the end, we also got Ben Browder and Claudia Black.

Which has better theme music, 2 or 4?
Highlander or Harry Potter. As much as I love Princes of the Universe, it can't really compare with the scores in the HP movies. :D
