Here's my end of year review of both fannish and personal achievements.
FIC: Total of 11 fics in 2010. Fewer than last year, which I'm not entirely happy about, but I do have several un-posted WIPs on my hard drive--some Stargate, some Harry Potter--that I hope to eventually complete. Also, I've been working hard on my Harry Potter Big Bang fic and although it's currently stalled, what I have so far is pretty darn good if I do say so myself. *g*
Stargate stories
slash
Limited Gene Pool (
on LJ): John has two types, one for women and one for men. (John/Cam, 532 words, 3 Jan 2010)
John Sheppard's Adynaton (
on LJ): John and Cam try to hash out their future to nearly disastrous results while sick with the flu and confined to the apartment. (John/Cam, 6400 words, 13 Jan 2010)
Wherever We Are Understood (
on LJ): Coming out to the Mitchells is easy as pie compared to facing down Patrick Sheppard. But Cam's been around the galaxy enough to know: sometimes people can surprise you. (John/Cam, 4230 words, 5 May 2010)
Sky's falling (
on LJ): John and Ronon driving through the rain to Dave's wedding. (John/Ronon, 630 words, 11 May 2010)
Trajectories of Two Moving Objects (
on LJ): Dr John Sheppard, the newest member of the SGC, deals with an embarrassing case of hero-worship when he meets Colonel Cameron Mitchell. But what if the attraction goes both ways? (John/Cam, 2550 words, 16 Dec 2010)
het
For Want of a ZPM: Obeying kinky off-world customs to secure a ZPM for Atlantis is mostly an excuse so John and Jeannie can finally resolve the sexual tension. (John/Jeannie, 1650, 15 May 2010)
Beautiful When You Smile (
on LJ): After she and Rodney break up, Jennifer realises that Ronon still has feelings for her and that maybe they can have a second chance. (Ronon/Jennifer, 1140 words, 31 Dec 2010)
gen
Or To Take Arms (
on LJ): Ronon knew Sheppard hadn't grown up in this galaxy and that he could never truly understand how people here felt about the Wraith. But when Sheppard made a decision that put Atlantis at risk, Ronon felt he had to finally speak up. (Ronon & John, 4560 words, 13 Apr 2010)
Flying Free (
on LJ): Animal-rights activists cause a kerfuffle on Atlantis when they set free some of Dr. Lam's ATA-activated hamsters. Oops? (Carolyn & Marie, 290 words, 19 Apr 2010)
Why We Fight: SG-1 visits Atlantis and clears up a few misconceptions. "I was under the impression that those who serve in the Stargate Program do not have children," Teyla says slowly. (Jack & Teal'c & Teyla, 1900 words, 14 May 2010)
Ex astris spes (
originally on LJ): When heavily armed strangers come to Athos seeking help for their flooding city, Teyla discovers a glimmer of hope that the Wraith might one day be defeated. "Rising" from Teyla's POV. (Teyla, 7070 words, 29 May 2010)
Statistics: Instead of pairing stats, I thought it'd be worth counting stories focused on women and characters of colour. Female POV: 3. CoC POV: 3. (Some overlap between the two.) A few stories include women and CoC as main characters, including
Why We Fight, which is a Jack POV but has some nice Teal'c and Teyla interaction.
I have to admit that 2010 was not a good year for me, overall, and perhaps that was reflected somewhat in my fannish output. In 2009, I created two important (to me!) fanfic AUs,
Red Ribbon and
Brightest Heaven, and I had so many different ideas for new stories, to flesh out the characters and their relationships and their futures. While I did write a few more ficlets in those 'verses in 2010, I failed to complete any of my Big Bangs, including
ladiesbigbang, nor did I complete my
femgenficathon assignment--both of those would have been fics for Brightest Heaven. At the time I felt pretty darn crappy about defaulting on those, like a bad feminist and a bad writer. (Don't worry, I'm over it now. *g*)
I also defaulted on
cm_tropefic (second year in a row!), which would have been part of my Red Ribben AU. However, I managed to hand in my
sga_genficathon fic, which was a
Teyla POV for Brightest Heaven. I feel pretty good about that one, and also
Or To Take Arms--I wonder what it says that my two strongest stories this year are both gen.
Moving on...
ART: I also made a few wallpapers this year, not all of it Stargate related.

FANDOMS: Until six months ago, I was mono-fannish. I watched other TV shows like Criminal Minds and Leverage, but I was only really active in Stargate fandom: I was only writing fic, making art, doing meta for Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. In July 2010, however, I made the mistake of downloading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (well, Sorcerer's Stone, the American version) and having it on my laptop meant I kept watching it over and over, and then I decided to revisit my DVDs, and then the books, and then the fic... and that's all she wrote!
I got sucked into HP fandom with a vengeance, though sadly five or six years too late. Ah well, it's been wonderful to rediscover the art and stories and essays from a post-Deathly Hallows perspective. I began exploring new pairings (Harry/Draco!) and revisiting old ones. I tried to pin down my characters, like Ginny, that I'd never really paid attention to before. I learned three very important things: (1) what the heck is up with the hate for Harry/Hermione shippers (answer: Harmonians); (2) to stay away from Snapedom for my own sanity (O.o); (3) that Sirius Black is a much more complicated character than I'd given him credit for.
New (to me) shows: I also watched Big Bang Theory S1-2, Castle, Doctor Who S5, Dresden Files, Rizzoli & Isles, and Sherlock (BBC).
Other shows: I continued to watch Criminal Minds (almost caught up), Leverage, and White Collar. I revisited Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (♥DS9♥), Sports Night, and The Inheritance (the TV movie based on the Louisa May Alcott novel). (Why isn't there any fic for The Inheritance? I really want to write some now. Also, I watched clips of Dharma and Greg on YouTube. Thomas Gibson = adorkable. *g*)
PERSONAL: 2010 was kind of crap for me. I mean, I'm both very proud of my LSAT score and excited that I got into law school, but overall this year has been depressing and directionless and kind of pathetic. Being online so much was both really good for me, and really bad for me. It helped me cope and kept me sane, but it also served as a huge distraction. That's on me, for not having better discipline and using fandom as a crutch, though.
But I'm grateful to all of you guys for being here, just doing your own thing, doing fandom things and RL things and talking about it. You're all so smart and thoughtful and good-hearted, and I appreciate you so very, very much. I appreciate the phone call from Arizona! I appreciate the emails! I appreciate the visits! *hugs* My New Year's resolution is to be a better friend, to return more of that care and comfort.
2011 RESOLUTIONS:
1) PICK A LAW SCHOOL!
2) BE A BETTER FRIEND!
3) HAND IN STORIES FOR FICATHONS! ON TIME!
4) LOSE WEIGHT EXERCISE MOAR!
5) JOIN A DATING SERVICE!
(I haven't decided if that last one is a joke or not. My friends keep telling me to do it, since they have, but it's not really my thing.)
