I am so, so tempted to sign up for
ladiesbigbang. If I were to sign up for it, I would probably write more of my Stargate AU
Brightest Heaven 'verse, since I really need to finish "Rising" from Sam's POV anyway.
Taken from the
Rules post:
What is
ladiesbigbang?
Ladies' BigBang is a woman-centric multimedia big bang challenge that welcomes artists, fiction/meta writers, vidders, podficcers, fanmixers, picspammers and graphics folks.
Ladies' BigBang, as the name implies, has a woman-centric focus. For the purposes of this challenge, a woman is someone who self-identifies as a woman (emphasis mine). The focus will be on existing and canonical women characters.
And although this challenge has "ladies" in the name, participants are of course welcome to choose younger characters, e.g. Molly from Heroes.
If this challenge is multimedia, then what about incentives/complementary fanworks?
In traditional big bang challenges, artists are assigned to stories to create a complementary piece of artwork. Our system will be similar to that, simply expanded to include other types of media.
The incentives/complementary pieces of fanwork, just like submissions, can be multimedia.
- If I wanted to create a complementary piece of fanwork for someone's fanart, I could write a piece of fiction based on the fanart.
- If I wanted to create a complement for someone's podfic, I could create a graphic cover (ie, book cover style) for their podfic recording.
- If I wanted to create a complement for someone's meta, I could write a fic/create some art inspired by the meta or related to it somehow.
Seriously, this sounds amazing. It's multi-fandom and multimedia, which means welcoming all types of creativity and thinking.
I've also been debating signing up for
whitecollar_bb but... I dunno, something about it strikes me as a bit off. Maybe it's the 10,000 word minimum or no mandatory beta, but whatever it is I'm not sure this is the Big Bang for me. (Not that I really need another Big Bang when I'm already gonna have to default on
au_bigbang.)
