I was never really in Star Trek (2009) fandom--never wrote much meta or read much fic--but vids are my weak spot because the source material is just so darn pretty. *g* So when I came across a rec for a Spock/Uhura vid to Beyonce's "Halo", I decided to give it a chance. Wow, does it ever work! I mean, pairing Beyonce with Star Trek might seem weird at first, and it probably wouldn't have worked with TOS or the other Trek series, but the 2009 movie is so much looser and contemporary that using 21st popular music does not feel anachronistic.
Anyway, it's a lovely vid and very 'shippy, and I really, really prefer listening to Beyonce instead of same-old, same-old. (To think, I used to actually like "My Immortal".) Vidders are becoming more daring and experimental (in general, not this vid specifically) and I love they learn from one another, how vidding has become so much more complicated, stylistically, although the best vids never lose their narrative thread. Vidding is awesome, and while it's not an artform I'm well-versed in, I can still appreciate vids on a couple of levels.
Also, omigod, I just noticed the thing with the turbolift doors, and the various points Uhura does or does not get onto the turbolift with Spock. I really gotta re-watch this movie, I think. *ponders*
