Real life, Dylan and Chris Bruno, casting actors for fanfic

Toronto, why you have to be like that? A friend of mine from church who also works in my office has her last day of work tomorrow, so we went out for drinks tonight at the Keg. Great food, decent drinks, a bunch of people I don't really know. My sister was stuck at her desk until past 7:30pm so we actually missed the worst of the thunderstorm. I hear there was a possible tornado warning?

I watched the Numb3rs Season 2 extras the other day and discovered that Diane Farr (Megan Reeves) used to date Chris Bruno (Walt Bannerman, The Dead Zone), older brother of Farr's co-star Dylan Bruno (Colby Granger). What a small world!

Y'know, despite initially casting Dylan Bruno as Casey Mitchell, Cam's younger brother, I realise now there's a lot more to finding actors who could be siblings than having the same colouring. For instance, you can look at this photo of Dylan and Chris Bruno and immediately know they're family. They have the same nose, the same smile, similarities in the shape of their eyes and forehead even though Dylan's face is broader than Chris'. Dylan's hair colour is closer to Ben Browder's than it is to his brother's dark brown, but overall the Bruno brothers look like brothers.

Of course, one need not always cast actors who look alike to play siblings: look at Joe Flanigan and Dylan Neal. I realise some people find it unrealistic that they look so different when they're supposed to be brothers, but it really works for me. It drives home that their insides are just as different as their outsides.

Anyway, not all actors can conveniently get their siblings cast as their characters' siblings. The Hewlitts are pretty special in that sense, I think. So I can live with Dylan Bruno playing Colby Granger, Cameron Mitchell's cousin, not his brother--especially as that leaves open interesting crossover possibilities!

ETA: Dylan and Chris even sound like brothers. I'm watching 5x09 right now, the third last scene with David, Colby, and Alan, and listening to Colby speak is like I've popped in my The Dead Zone DVDs and Walt is on my TV screen.
