It was definitely scary, but I forced myself up to the little barrier wall and made myself look out and about. It was at night, so it was extra awesome. I was trying to pick out the landmarks we'd already visited like Notre Dame and the Louvre and I was trying to figure out what this big beautiful building to the side was. It was gorgeous, mulitiple stories of classical architecture with manicured grounds, but I didn't know what it was. (A passing native told me it was some sort of government building or something.) All in all, I'm very glad that I did it, although I did have to sit down on the ground immediately afterward before I could even begin thinking about regaining my equilibrium and going back down.
It's funny. I have a hideous fear of heights, and yet, given the right motivation, I can overlook it. Witness my behavior on top of a double decker bus in London. I was contorting myself all over the place trying to get shots and halfway through the ride I realized the Hungarians three seats over were just waiting for me to pitch myself over the raliing and fall. :)
Depending on which way you were looking it was either the Invalides (former military hospital, now military museum and Napoleon's burial site) or the Palace de Chaillot (various museums).

Like I said, weird.
