The darker side of Stargate SG-1 fic

I've been reading Stargate SG-1 fic in between doing expenses. *meeps a little* This fandom has some truly inspired writers. It's not as wacky-insane as SGA fandom but, oh dark, and it does such terrible, wonderful things to our so-called heroes. It's fascinating to see Daniel Jackson, fandom Golden Boy, portrayed as the detached, ruthless -- at ( Read more... )

Mmmmm, dark!Daniel SG1 fic. I *still* miss that. It's at times a beautiful beautiful fandom. I mean, yes, also blatantly insane but really talented as well!

Ohhhh, Daniel I no longer have any icons of you, so the compromised morality of HRG will have to do.

Yes, yes. I'm not a dark-fic reader by nature; it takes a lot for me to even attempt angsty fic, if I'm not guaranteed a mostly happy ending. But I'll sometimes click on shorter pieces that are sharp, stark, and unhappy -- and wow, this fandom is incredibly talented.

I still have a lot of Daniel icons left, even though I haven't been in the fandom the last couple of years. MS is a beautiful man, and Daniel himself is just... epic.

See, it's crazy, because I know SGA is the WACKY fandom, but because of my previous background of SG-1 (years of watching it and lovingly mocking it with my dad), I can't take it seriously in fandom because my brain always goes right back to the silly place. (And because this is how my brain works, I want an SGA parody of Monty Python and the Holy Grail where John and the team are trying to get back to the SGC/Earth as a stand-in for Camelot, solely so they can say, once they're there, "Well, on second thought, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place." I am kind of a freak.)

You're right, that *is* crazy! Hee. I came into SG-1 right after Buffy ended, so I tackled it with the kind of mindset I'd had for the Jossverse (and later, for TWW), which was way more rigorous and analytical than anything I'd brought to SGA. So yeah, we're definitely coming from opposite sides here... particularly as I'm not a natural mocker. *g*

(I have never seen Monty Python. *runs and hides*)
