I've been kind of quiet this past week, with only my
"Season 4 Sam is not depressed, dammit!" outburst on Thursday for noise. No real reason for staying off LJ, except I've been exhausted. Lots of family stuff. Lots of Veronica Mars Season 2. And my Andy-fic for
tww_minis that I still haven't completed.
Golf on Wednesday was surprisingly a lot of fun. I'd never been on a golf course before, just the driving range once. I had a blast! My drive is apparently quite good for a beginner, which I'm going to assume has to do with how I really let loose when given a big stick to hit stuff with. Mmm, pent-up aggression! Driving the golf cart was also incredibly fun. The weather was beautiful, and I loved flooring it over the little hills. I got a bit of a tan, too. The grapefruit wine coolers didn't hurt, either ;)
Friday was an easy day at work. Nearly everybody skipped out early for the long weekend. I went to see The Devil Wears Prada because both my sister and
atpo_onm recommended it.
Really enjoyed it, much to my surprise. The clothes were nice, I guess, but what I enjoyed best was Andy's struggle to make it in the workplace and her discovery of who she was willing to become for the sake of her career. I know people praised Meryl Streep for her performance, and I did like her, but I have a soft spot for Anne Hathaway. Once I got home, I went for dinner with my parents and my cousin (on dad's side) and her husband and kid. Chinese food in the burbs -- not the best thing ever.
Sunday lunch was dim sum with my dad's side. Same cousin and her family, my aunt, my other cousin and her husband (my nephew had to work), and my mom's oldest sister. The Chinatown restaurant we were eating at was on the third floor, the top floor of the building, and apparently the roof is leaking because we had water coming down everywhere! Eww.
Then my uncle (mom's brother), aunt, and cousins from Montreal came down on Sunday evening, and my sister cooked a terrific feast for us all. No Chinese food -- well, rice, but we couldn't get away from that -- we had mussels, shrimp, Cornish hens, risotto, potato salad. Watermelon, cantaloupe, and ice cream for dessert. Yummy! We're still eating the leftovers but I don't mind.
black_eyedgirl wrote a gorgeous Toby/Andy fic for me.
Within history's repeating reaches into the years before The West Wing, dips into canon, and spools into the future. Andy is one of my favourite women on TWW (though, honestly, they're all wonderful women) and I love how
black_eyedgirl holds true to her character while allowing her to pull away and come together with Toby. It's a slow reconciliation, without pretensions of a guaranteed happy ending, and I love it. The cameos and mentions of the other senior staff don't hurt, either :)
pocky_slash has written more Sam/Will for me. FOR ME. SAM/WILL. FOR ME. *hugs Kait tight* It's in three parts, unbetaed, over
here. Hope you don't mind my linking to it, Kait! Oh man, I do so love this pairing. I love how
pocky_slash writes it. BUT I WILL TAKE THIS PAIRING ANY WAY I CAN GET IT. One of these days, one of us will manage to write actual smut, like actually explicit stuff in which there is sex, for Sam and Will. And on that day I will die because I will be DEAD FROM JOY.
Ahem.
Finally finally finished watching all of Veronica Mars Season 2.
Wow, took me long enough. I'm surprised I managed to stay unspoiled all this time -- thank you, flist, for not spilling the beans. (Not that I have a lot of VMars fans on my flist, but for those of you who always spoiler-cut -- THANK YOU.) The past week has been a downloading frenzy as my sister and I raced through Season 2 -- my sister a few eps ahead of me, so I had to be careful to avert my eyes when passing her computer -- and now I can safely traverse the VMars fic comms without fear of spoilage.
I really do love this show. I'm not sure this season's mystery was as compelling as last year's -- probably because it wasn't as intrinsically personal for Veronica as solving Lilly's murder -- but there was a lot of incredibly good stuff. Veronica and Keith, Logan and Weevil. Rob Thomas may not always be the best at following up his own storylines, but he sure writes some intriguing characters. When I did my Top 25 Favourite TV Characters, Veronica herself didn't quite make the list. I have other loves that edge her out, but she is probably definitely the most interestingly-written teenage girl on TV right now.
Plus
Kristen Bell is, like, the only skinny blonde on TV I actually find attractive. That is, I find her objectively beautiful, the way I find Emma Caulfield beautiful. Whereas SMG is merely pretty and Alyson Hannigan is often kinda funny-looking (sorry). I do miss
Amanda Seyfried's utter hotness, though.
Jason Dohring is also hot, though occasionally funny-looking. Depending on the camera angle.
Francis Capra has insane eyelashes. Much as I love Veronica/Logan and want Rob Thomas to, y'know. Actually show their relationship in Season 3 instead of just flashing back to it? I would love to see some Veronica/Weevil UST.
You know, my love for VMars is similar to my love for House and other shows in which I gorge myself for a couple of weeks, read a ton of fic, then get bored with it for months on end. Speaking of House, today was the Season 3 premiere, wasn't it? Oops, totally missed it. I'll download later. What else...
Supernatural Season 1 DVDs came out today! Big news on my flist. Much bemoaning of empty wallets for those who can't afford it right now. I'm tempted myself but I really shouldn't.
