Would just like to take this moment to say that I loved the movie, I'm going to see it again tomorrow, and that you should all see it too. I am grateful I stayed spoiler-free, and I think you should all watch the movie spoiler-free as well.
None of my friends who came to watch the BDM with me are Browncoats. They've never seen Firefly, didn't know the characters or the universe, and they said they enjoyed the movie. They laughed, they reacted to the stuff that happened on the screen (I'm trying to be vague here), and they found the story-line comprehensible, not too confusing. They said it all flowed together really well.
So yay, I think I can get them to watch the DVDs too. In fact, A was making noises about buying the DVDs himself. I told him he should definitely do that, good investment, the DVDs are worth purchasing :)
In the movie theatre, I kept looking around to see if anybody had on a browncoat or some other recognisable Firefly costume, but we got in late and most people were already seated. When I called the theatre this afternoon, checking to see if they still had tickets, they said they'd only sold 25 of 400 seats. (I'm assuming 400 for the entire day, 100 seats per showing.) But when we got in for the 7:00 pm showing, 2/3 or maybe even 3/4 of the theatre was full. That's ~70 people for one showing in one theatre in Toronto! Here's hoping the 10:00 pm showing was even more packed!
Going to bed now, because my brain is still all a-twirl.
ETA: Forgot to mention! We went into Indigo after the movie, browsed the shelves, and lo and behold!
Tamora Pierce's latest in her Circle series,
The Will of the Empress. So in one night I get BDM and new TP novel! God is good :)
