Music Monday ... isn't it?

May 05, 2008 20:13

I guess Music Monday is a good way to re-enter the realm of my livejournal, after the long hiatus. A few days before, I stumbled over this video in some other journal, and I was immediately reminded how much I love that song. (For some reasons, it touches me even more when I'm in a hormonal down. Don't ask me why!) It's been years since I've last heard it, because I lost the tape on which I had copied it. So, there it is, not very hip, or indy ... Johnny Clegg, Asimbonanga:

Regarding updates on my life: I was particularly uninspired these last months, but I need to kick myself into gear again. The Big Bad Book has to be done this year!  (And I think I will start using those word count thingies for my daily task.)

The archive trip was rather successfull, and my return was one of the crazier travels I have done in my life. With a sort of blizzard, four hours of wait at the airport and  three hours later than expected. Luckily, there was a night bus in Berlin, and I could spend a few hours on the couch at my brother's flat. I was tired and cranky, but in retrospective, it makes me laugh.

A few weeks before, I had the class reunion which was funnier than expected. Of course, I was very nervous, but it was really fine. And need to re-contact some people. It's really weird, though, that I'm the only person with a university degree.

Semester has started in April. It's not so funny this time, because the subject is methods of source analysis, not travelogues, but it's not too bad. Tomorrow, we will do paleography. As a result of the last semester, I got two fantastic student papers, some of the best I have ever gotten in those three years. And I'm really sort of proud that I gave students the opportunity to chose topics (like medieval maps) they found fascinating. It's my greatest experience as a teacher so far, and reading those papers made me very, very happy.

That's it in short. Regarding fannish experiences, big ass posts about Avatar are to be expected soon.
