Lately my mind has been consumed by thoughts of the technological singularity said to be in the future. In a nutshell, this is the time when humanity creates artificial intelligence that outdoes it in every way. This will have a profound impact on our way of life, for better or (perhaps unimaginably) worse. Are we ready for such an event? I'm not sure. Ray Kurzweil projects its arrival as early as 2045, well within my lifetime.
