First off. Ropes.
Had a great time being tied up by Skitabug and H. Awesome ladies no matter how you look at it. Skitabug is a natural, and I'm sure will master the art in no time. Dinner was fun too. I had a good time socializing with all you cool folks, even though I was kept out past my bed time. It was well worth it.
The Family.
Dad's getting better, but is worried about his upcoming surgery. I'm making progress on getting up to speed their financial situation, and we have an appointment with a lawyer to review the will/trust. Dad also mentioned for the first time that if he doesn't return normal after the surgery, he will consider moving into a home. That's progress. I do feel sad for my folks. I think Dad is starting to face his mortality, and that's got to be hard for him. Harder than he's letting on. Oh yeah, and the new dog has a love for mud puddles that is beyond frustrating. Grrr.
Work.
Ugh, don't know where to start. Lots of process changes going on. New more defined roles for the staff. Trying to train up the staff so they can all do eachothers positions, but between vacations, and sickness, and just being slammed some days, I can't pull staff away from their positions to shadow someone else. They're kind of resistant to it anyway. New schedules coming out, and on top of all of that, is increased scrutiny from my director. It her mission to turn all us Shift Sups into uber managers. So we're part of the crew, but not, and we're part of the management team, but not. This must be how 1st lieutenants must feel. I'm starting to get paranoid too. For some reason I feel like they're paying extra attention to me....probably just stress. At least the stomach hasn't bugged me this week.
Weekly World Champs
Should've stayed home. I missed last week because of a late meeting at work. This week, I was determined to go. Crappy day at work. No time for lunch. Went straight to the folks house to finish pruning the junipers before they completely take over the sidewalks. Had a banana, and a clif bar, and a coke on the way down. Got to the course late. Missed the first lap. Jumped in on the second lap just behind the hammerheads. Lasted a lap and a half and got dropped. Eventually, the whole pack busted up into groups of 10-20. I would hop in one of those, rotate to the front and take a pull, drift back to the back of the line after my pull, only to have some guy two riders ahead pull out and leave a gap in the line for me to close. That happened three times!! I was about to kill the last guy who did it. This was after I pulled for half a lap. Frackin' knucklehead!!!
Entered a race early this Sunday up the coast. Man, I hope that goes well. No play time for me this weekend.
Something positive
OK, I'm pretty moody, so I'll wrap this up with something positive. Last night's Stanley Cup hockey game was one of the best games of the entire playoffs. The first two have been ridiculously one sided and boring. The Penguins finally showed up last night and played great. Fast play, good hits, great saves, a couple of pucks off of the goal crossbar, all sorts of scrambling in front of the goalies. Oh man, it was fun to watch. Every game should've been like this.
