People seem to enjoy giving me titles. It's something they do. Often I'm "ErinKelsey" (yes, one word). I've been called everything from cardiologist to vampire hunter to professor to the foreigner. But as Ginger and I were discussing today, my newest title doesn't really fit in with the others. The title? Battle wench.
Yes, battle wench. I believe Logan is the one who coined the term. At a Les Miz rehearsal last week we blocked Act Two, and most of the act is battle scene after battle scene. For those unfamiliar with the plot of the show, the battles are part of a short-lived and unsuccessful revolution against the French government. It's a bunch of college students taking on the National Guard because they think the people are going to rise up and fight with them, and then the people...don't. But we get some great songs and tragic deaths anyway. Anywho. The guys/students on the barricades do the battles and a group of girls gets them ammunition/rolls bandages/other sundry things, and in the end we all get shot and die. It is difficult to describe how thrilled I am that I get to die on the barricade. It sounds weird, but I wanted to be one of the revolutionaries from day one. I get to spend Act Two with the students (many of whom are good friends) and then get shot. I get to die fighting for a cause we all, apparently, truly believe in, since we all have many chances to leave and stay alive. It's a rather romantic notion, but I like it. Not dying, of course, but I enjoy that I get to fight the good fight. And be a battle wench in the process.
I feel a little like I'm going crazy trying to get everything done as Les Miz picks up momentum, but things have been going well so far. It's been more difficult dealing with my brother some days than it has been getting homework done before rehearsal. My grades are solid, the concert was surprisingly awesome, and I get to be a battle wench, which made my month, pretty much. So now I have one more concert, that Academic Bowl meet, and then Les Miz, and I can take a week or two off. Which will be very nice.
Little Miss Sunshine is my new favorite movie. I loved it the first time I saw it, and then loved it even more the second time. I got it for my birthday, so I can now watch it over and over again and learn all the lines and all that good stuff. I hope everyone has seen it - it's definitely worth a rental if you haven't.
