Observations on the human race

Perhaps I was just looking more closely at the world today, but I was able to find highly unusual things in the most mundane and normal places.

1. I believe my mother and I today sighted the elusive crazy cat lady outside of her house. Hard to believe, I know, but she fit the profile almost perfectly. Little, old, and cranky. We saw her in Jewel, in one of the lengthy lines to get to a checkout today. She was right in front of us, which gave me time to examine the contents of her cart. They are as follows:

~39 cans of cat food
~16 cans of dog food
~1 box of cat food stuff
~1 bunch of bananas
~1 package of paper towels
~2 packages of paper plates

Yes, I counted. That's how long we were in line. But she had 55 total cans of food for pets plus the box, whatever that was. How can a little old lady buying that much pet food not be a crazy cat lady?

2. In church today (the place didn't burst into flame when I walked in, surprisingly), my mom, brother, and I were seated directly off in the corner, looking at a statue of Jesus in the arms of his mother after his crucifixion. It was hard to avoid examining it, and as I looked I noticed something peculiar. On his left leg, just above his knee, was a spot that was unmistakably a lipstick print. Someone kissed the statue. Someone wearing very pink or red lipstick. It was, I decided, about where a tall person who was kneeling would be able to reach, but that didn't make the whole thing make any more sense. For one thing, a person who would feel inclined to kiss a statue of Jesus would not be wearing that kind of lipstick, and you'd think they would be mortified to leave a blemish on the statue and at the very least would have wiped it off. Unless it was to prove they'd been there, maybe? If that's the case, they negate any real religious meaning behind such an act and it becomes a selfish one.

And that was my day. Interesting, no? I did very little other than that - Rob is very entertaining when he's hyped up on Christmas. That's all I really have to say, except to wish everyone very happy holidays. I thought about posting that tomorrow, but I doubt I'll be online, so as I typed this post I thought, "Why not?" Happy Holidays, all. Merry Christmas if that's what you celebrate. I hope everyone has a spectacular couple of days.
