random thoughts: spn, vampire diaries and goddarn ebooks

Watched the first ep of the new season of Supernatural and it really is one of my favourite shows. The main thing I got out of the episode, though, was that the writers are really shipping Dean/Castiel. They keep cockblocking and drawing attention to the Wincest in a derisive way, which ok, I get it enough already, and then making all these epic Dean/Castiel angsty-romantic moments. But, in terms of the non-slash part of my brain it wasn't the best episode story wise - where was all the Lucifer we were promised? It was too much set up for the season and too little getting on with it.

Vampire Diaries is very melodramatic and epic romance and yes we all know how it's like Twilight, but whatever. I think the set up is ok and I love Ian Somerhalder even though I kept wanting to reach into the screen and brush his fringe into his eyes or something. The guy who was a werewolf and then an angel and now a vampire (Paul Wesley: Wolf Creek and the Fallen) was pretty good too as his brother/the main love interest. It was very much a setting up the world episode and it felt a little Friday Night Lights. I'm going to keep watching because it's vampires (and they do them good so far - right touch of the monster) and wait and see if the whole 'retaining humanity' thing ends up bugging me. I hope that it'll get over that quickly and move on. The production values were fantastic (one of the big differences that the 15-ish years since Buffy is the fight scenes where it's less choreography and more special effects). So yeah, so far it's ok.

And how hard is it to buy an ebook in pdf format for a trashy supernatural romance that I enjoyed the free first story on random house but don't want in paperback cause I'm so wary of all the supernatural romances out there.
