On Thursday,
Scribes of Angel will be Ten Years Old. Wow… the time has simply flown, and it has been one heck of a ride. I’ve learnt a lot along the way. I’ve read some fabulous stories and I’ve had a ball. But best of all, I’ve met some lovely people, and made some wonderful friends along the way

You remember right. Eternity was my first site and I cringe now when I recall all the awful newbie mistakes I made while running it! But Eternity had a fanfic section that turned out to be the part that I most enjoyed doing, and people most enjoyed visiting, so I removed and expanded it and Scribes of Angel was born.
And then I discovered Scribes. The stories there were always top quality, were well written and it was/is a great place to browse and lose oneself in. You contacted me and asked for my very first story. And that was the beginning of my fanfic writing days.
Then I’m glad I asked!
Was I writing 10 years ago? No. I started writing 9 years ago. But I was reading 10 years ago, I had just discovered fanfic. I had bought every Buffy and Angel book in shops and then, by chance, I came across a website that offered fanfic. In those days there wasn't Live Journal and you had to put up your own site, or get invited to submit a story at a website. But, oh, the plethora of fanfic. I read for months, and it was at least a couple of years that I read a new fanfic every night. Those were the days.
Yes, I remember the days before LJ. And I can still remember my astonishment when I discovered fanfic online, but most of the stuff I found wasn’t that good. I started to think I could do better than that, which is when I started to write, and Mike persuaded me to make a website to put me fledgling stories on. By the time I discovered there was some marvellous stories around and writers way better than me doing it, I was hooked!
People are now writing other fandoms, but I think Buffy and Angel were one of the first really great fandoms.
People have been writing fanfiction long before the invention of the Internet, but Buffy was lucky in that it corresponded with the web explosion, which must have helped it along quite a bit.
