I find good to be subjective. There is one in my new fandom that is the darling of the fandom...I don't think it's good. I'll be honest I almost never read at the small sites. I read Project Paranormal because it was a group thing. Generally what I did was find a small core of authors that I liked and just read them.
That's what I still do. AO3 is good because I can subscribe to them and I get an email when they post. But I don't mind wading through the stories. It doesn't take me long to know what I will and will not like.
Tagging. I'm getting much better at tagging. On AO3 I've learned how to tag to get noticed. But it's much like any site, people show up for the pairings and/or case fic. I got a lot more readers 6 months ago when I was new because the fandom was new. This is the first time I've ever been right in on a fandom at the beginning. There's more competition and I have less readers but that's okay. I write for me and worry less about who reads it.
I'm not much on social media either but as an author I have to have them so I muddle thru. I swear the Prodigal Son discords are going to be the death of me
What makes a good story is certainly subjective. Nobody was going to like all of the stories, but at least I could choose the ones I thought were written nicely! I once had a story submitted all in text-speak! That was surreal, I can tell you - and she couldn't understand why I turned it down!
You helped me get Project Paranormal going, so I'm glad you used to read it, too.
Prodigal Son hasn't been available in my area but its supposed to be starting soon. I'm not sure its my cup of tea, but my daughter and I are going to give it a go. That's your fault, BTW... you've made many posts on the programme, and I wondered what it was all about!
Yes well some are just bad. I had no idea you had people asking to be on the site like an audition. I never did solicit people. Generally I just posted to FFN and other fan sites that allowed it like adult ffn and mostly people asked me to archive my stuff.
Prodigal Son started in the UK last week on Sky one if you get that. It's a bit dark but I love it.
Thank you! Apparently my husband remembered I wanted to see it (!) and put a series record on it for us. now we just need to find a time when my daughter and I can watch it together.
