The snowy Thursday brought more travel chaos to the capital but fortunately I left home early enough to avoid getting caught up for the most part. It was also the day of the company kick off meeting at the
Millennium Gloucester. There were over 150 of us there and were treated to lunch and dinner either side of the presentations that reviewed 06 and outlined the objectives for 07 and the new vision of "Excellence Through Teamwork". Before dinner and the 70's Disco (never seen so much purple velvet in one place at one time ever!) there was the awards ceremony where various teams and individuals were recoginised for their various achievements in 06. The last one of the night was the "Country Manager's Outstanding Achievement" Award which goes to just one individual a year. So when you hear your own name announced, followed by, as my director put it, "a riotous cheer", it is quite a moment. Although probably surpassed by having to make your way to the stage to accept the award in front of the assembled masses from the man himself dressed as Elvis! I'm not normally one to blow my own trumpet but this was really special and showed that all my hard graft over the year had not gone unnoticed and in a big way!
Not really a celebration weekend though as I've managed to get another dose of the flu-like symptoms I had the other week. Saturday was the sneezing day while today's affliction was a pounding headache. Should be back in the office tomorrow and I'm sure my dear colleagues will waste no time in continuing their good natured ribbing about my little achievement. Just as well I'm so grounded otherwise it might start going to my head!
