SGA: The Musical!

Aug 28, 2006 18:27

Forces have conspired to make me want to cast SGA characters in A Chorus Line. Conspired, I tell you. Also, I'm waiting around at work for stuff to be finished, so I can check it and go. You guys, I'm afraid, are the ones to suffer!

So...on to the casting.

Now, obviously Rodney is Zach, the director. In charge. Kind of bullying. Asking all kinds of questions he has no business asking.

That makes John the Cassie character, Rodney's former lover. His career was on the fast track, but he felt like he was losing control of his life, needed to take some time out for himself, and that gave him a black mark in the business, a reputation for being somehow undedicated and not reliable enough. It broke him and Rodney apart, and John drifted around, living off his looks for a while, wasting time. Now he's back to do the one thing that makes his life make sense: dance! And he wants to do it for (also do it with!) Rodney.

Can't you just hear him singing "The Music and the Mirror":

"Give me a job and you instantly get me involved.
If you give me a job,
Then the rest of the crap will get solved.
Put me to work,
You would think that by now I'm allowed.
I'll do you proud."

He's a man who's at this best when he has a purpose!

And then of course there's the porny bit:

Play the music.
Give me the chance to come through.
All I ever needed was the music, and the mirror,
And the chance to dance for you.

Okay, so it's porny the way I imagine it. Like he and Rodney had some interesting games they used to play, with John getting naked and dancing for him, Rodney watching his reflection in the mirror. Then whenever they were working together, and Rodney needed John to bring more sensuality to his performance, he'd whisper in his ear, "Like we practiced it the other night."

Yeah. Good times.

"Dance Ten, Looks Three": Cadman! "That ain't it, kid. That ain't it, kid!" I totally see it.

"Nothing" and "What I Did For Love": I thought about Teyla for this. She'd be perfect for "What I Did For Love." It's very philosophical, very Athosian. But I can't see her singing "Nothing." Or more specifically, I can't imagine her singing the word "bullshit." Then I thought...Zelenka! And it was perfect!

Just think how understated and sarcastic his version of "Nothing" would be:

And I said..."Nothing,
I'm feeling nothing,"
And he says "Nothing
Could get a foreign exchange student transferred."

They all felt something,
But I felt nothing
Except the feeling
That this bullshit was absurd!

That last line especially--oh the pricelessness of his delivery!

Then after Kavanaugh's tragic injury, when he whips around too fast, and his ponytail whaps him in the face, and he loses his balance and falls, injuring himself, Zelenka sings "What I Did For Love" with a stoic sense of resignation.

Kiss today goodbye,
And point me t'ward tomorrow.
We did what we had to do.
Won't forget, can't regret
What I did for
Love

"I Can Do That": It's like that song was made for Ford! Cute, young, eager puppy Ford.

I'm watchin' Sis
Go pitterpat.
Said,
"I can do that,
I can do that."

"At the Ballet": This is a hard one. I find the idea of Elizabeth singing "everything was beautiful at the ballet" quite amusing, although none of the lyrics seem to fit her. I do think there's a possibility for Chaya, with some tweaking:

Mother always said I'd be ascended
When I grew up, when I grew up.
"Higher plane of existence, with a special something
And a very, very personal flair."
And though I was eight or nine,
Though I was eight or nine,
Though I was eight or nine,
I hated her.
Now,

"Ascended" is nice, but it sure isn't human.
"Human" is what it's about.
I never met anyone who was "ascended"
Who couldn't figure that out.
So mortal love I'd never live to see.
But it was clear,
If not to her,
Well, then... to me...
That ... everything was beautiful at the ballet...

Finally, we get to the big finish. John has made the chorus, become part of the team, rediscovering himself and his love for Rodney in the process. Of course, he still stands out, because it's simply notpossible for him to be just another face in the crowd. And the final song announces his triumphant return:

One singular sensation
Every little step he takes.
One thrilling combination
Every move that he makes.
One smile and suddenly nobody else will do;
You know you'll never be lonely with you know who.
One moment in his presence
And you can forget the rest.
For the guy is second best
To none...

Then he and Rodney go home and celebrate opening night with copious amounts of sex. The end!

If you've lost your mind too, and have other ideas for casting, please feel free to add them!

ETA: This isn't fic! No matter what it says on the newsletter. This is me being a goofball. And making you all suffer through my goofball-dom.
