I don't know why I should be so jazzed by this news, but I am. Maybe it's the timing of it (big changes coming my way, which I'll talk more about down the road).
Anyway, a paper I had written... over a dozen years ago got reprinted in The Children's Literature Review, volume 130, which was published earlier this year. The paper was "Breaking the Pattern: Alan Garner's The Owl Service and The Mabinogian". The paper had originally appeared in Mythlore 75.
Now, I realize part of this happened because there are probably not many papers out there on Garner's works. And when something like the CLR wants to cover an author, they'll look for whatever they can find. (In case you don't know, the CLR is a series usually found in libraries. They give a bio of the author, a list of the author's works, and then some article or review about one of the titles.)
When Gale Pulbishing had contacted me about the reprint, I reread the paper. I mean, it was some time ago, so did I want it going out there again? But when I did, I was pleased. It holds up rather well, clearly discussing what's going on in the book, and looking at what Garner was hinting at beyond it (the cycle of abuse in families).
So... I'm in print again! Right up there with my paper on Robin Hood and Green Arrow that was published in a volume from the Robin Hood conference I attended in Rochester, New York (again, some years ago).
