Actually, I am still here...

Three weeks absence felt a little excessive to me when I checked this morning.

I don't really know why I haven't been posting. I guess I can never think of anything useful to say, or that I'm just boring everyone. That's probably why I post journals less on dA too now ^^
I'm just not that thought-provoking to be honest. And I've been writing less as it is.
I don't want to get all "reviews matter" because they don't, surely I'm writing for myself, or whatever they call it. Yeah, concrit is REALLY great, and I don't get enough of that from dA but...it's nice to get some replies there.
Not that I'm complaining about LJ, I've got a great amount of feedback here.
It's just that the people watching on dA are friends and they seem to be interested in my stories, only they aren't a lot of the time. I just don't get that much in comments from them (Emma, that's not aimed at you, because you always read ^^).

Maybe I'm just moaning. I don't comment everything they write, so I shouldn't expect the same. But, that could be why some motivation is gone. Which is dumb really, because I'm not writing it for them, am I?

Darn, I argue with myself too much.

So here's to summer and to writing.
I've had so many NaNo ideas it's ridiculous. I think I may explode before November arrives.

Here is the issue:
I was going to do some kind of science fiction adventure - I've had the characters for such a long time now. It was going to be all big guns and busting alien ass, like those sci-fi films they keep releasing now which are all special effects and no interesting character development. (Yeah, maybe you shouldn't aim for that, but it's NaNo, so the first draft is GONNA be trash). I figured I'd add nice useful things like development and thought-provoking stuff in a rewrite. Yeah?

Sort of.
The idea was that there was a second Earth, an artificial planet we built ourselves, and a space station in between. There's some alien hordes that invade every now and then, but they've been beaten back by humans twice now. They're moving in for the third and it's basically a special ops team and whatever...you don't need to whole spiel.
My problem being that a week ago I played Jericho.

Oh my sweet Lord, it's such an incredible game. I could only wish to ever own a computer that could handle its pretty graphics.
But that's a similar kind of thing, only demons from Hell are invading left, right and centre. And the story follows a special ops team with some physcic/magic powers.
Now doesn't that sound a million time more interesting?

Not that I want to plagiarise, but it did point out that I'd much rather play with horror than just "they be aliens, oh noes".
And zombies end up in most people's NaNo anyway, at least if I throw them in on purpose I can get away with it XD

I guess what I'm asking is, how can I blend horror and sci-fi together with the above premise I had, and still keep it...not bad.
Because, I don't want it to turn it into my last demon-busting story with guns instead of swords.
And, horror would make it darker, so I have to make my characters darker and...argh.

Any suggestions?
Or do I just do the sci-fi story and save the horror for another story, albeit a similar one?

tl;dr - Should I write sci-fi action, horror with demons of Hell and big guns, or both?

Thanks, sorry for the ramble.
(And my, isn't that spell-check button useful? It'd be more useful if it stopped trying to change my British spellings to wrong American ones, but nobody's perfect).

EDIT: But apparently, even the magic spell-check cannot save me from my own stupidity. Thank God I reread these things after posting...

demons, aliens, science fiction, nanowrimo, horror
