01. Couch
"I don't really get the reason for doing a group study when we have different courses," Kento pipes up as Umika sets down the tray with tea things on the coffee table. They were all seated on the couch in Inoo's house, where their university sempai had called them to ask if they were free and had somehow ended up studying.
"Both of you still have general subjects so I can tutor you. Besides, you didn't have to come if you didn't want to," Inoo calmly points out. He finishes some calculations he was doing and moves to his drafting table, where a half-finished blueprint was spread out.
"But I can't leave Umika-chan here alone with you!" Kento suddenly says, making Umika and Inoo laugh.
"I'll be fine on my own, Kenchan. Besides, Inoo-sempai likes somebody else," she said with a laugh. Kento pouted but deemed not to say anything else. Inoo finishes adjusting a part of the blueprint before standing up and approaching Umika, leaning in so their faces were inches apart. He ignores Kento gaping next to Umika as he flutters his eyelashes at the younger girl.
"What makes Umika-chan so sure of that?" he says.
She looks up at him and smiles.
"I saw you making out behind your building."
Kento's jaw dropped as Inoo laughed and retreated. "Fair enough. You have learnt well, my little kouhai."
"I learn from the best," she said with a grin and a shrug of her shoulders.
"Wait, who?" Kento said in confusion.
Inoo and Umika smiled, saying nothing.
"Fine," Kento grumbled. "How do you solve this one again?"
And they work on their economics assignment again.
02. Pillow
He was riding a bus home after another very bad day. Nothing seemed to go his way. He got almost half the steps wrong to the new dance they were learning while everyone else , he tripped over his own shoelaces, and his iPhone broke after playwrestling with Yamada. And then he was in danger of failing some of his subjects in university.
And to top that off he fell asleep on the train so he had to take a bus home because he missed his stop.
He thinks that just qualified him to the "Worst Luck Today" award.
They arrive at the nth bus stop and he stares moodily out of the window as university students stepped in. A girl sits down beside her, and he fixes his face mask so no one would notice who he was.
"Okamoto-kun?" a familiar voice asked beside him. He glanced over and found Umika sitting beside him, pulling down her own face mask.
"Umika-chan! Wait, was this your stop?" he said in surprise. She nodded, pulling back her face mask.
"Un. I'm going home from university... how about you? Don't you usually take the train?"
"I... I kinda missed my stop."
"...Oh. Don't worry, I'm sure you'll feel better when you get home and take a nice long bath." He looks at her in confusion and she hurriedly explains.
"Ah, that's what I do when I feel frustrated over work or school... when I get home and take a hot bath, it's like I wash away all the problems of the day... am I weirding you out?" Umika asked, trailing off when she caught Keito staring at her. He shook his head as if waking himself from a trance.
"A-ah, no... I just think that's nice... ah, I don't mean it in a bad way... uhm..." he said, blushing and stumbling over his words.
Umika laughed. "Okamoto-kun looks cute when he's flustered," she said, smiling. Keito put his mask back on and sunk his face into his scarf, so that the only thing that could show that he was blushing would be his forehead and the tops of his ears. Umika laughed at his reaction and settled in on the seat next to his, putting on earphones and closing her eyes.
Ten minutes later Keito felt something slightly heavy settle on his shoulder. Turning carefully, he saw Umika sleeping peacefully, earphones still on but playlist finished. He shifted so she would be more comfortable and looked back out of the window, a small smile on his face.
"Even if I can't talk to you... as long as we're both on this bus, let me cherish this."
03. Bed
She wakes upon Kento's bed with no idea why she was there in the first place. He appeared at the doorway just as she was waking up, holding a bowl of porridge on a tray for her.
"Good morning... feeling better?" he gingerly asked. She sat up and held her head in her hands, feeling the world spinning around her.
"What happened?" she groaned.
"You were, uh... you got drunk last night," Kento slowly said. She stared and then remembered. The argument, the broken phone, crying and calling the first person on her contacts list.
"...Sorry..." she said, and she looks down as the tears started pouring down her face again.
"Umika-chan?" a different voice, a familiar one, called out. She looked up.
It was him.
Kento slowly backs out of his own room as he entered and sat on the bed next to Umika, still holding on to the tray of porridge.
The porridge grew cold.
So did his heart.
.....I'm sorry? I'LL MAKE IT UP TO YOU CHUU
