I am unemployed, feeling unemployable, and STILL too busy to deal with LiveJournal. How do you people do it? I spent half an hour crafting a tongue-in-cheek reply to some wacko only to realize too late that posting was "friends only." Call it the last straw...

Advice to the people I care about: stop self-destructing. You know who you are. Things are going great for you - let it happen and don't sabotage it. Don't underestimate the power of open honesty.

Whitney seems to think that my day consists of watching DVDs and chatting online. When I try to explain to her what I *DO* she gets the standard glazed look on her face. I don't blame her for this because it IS hard to be interested. Here's what I did yesterday:

I built and configured xinetd and CVS on a Linux VPS so that we could archive a PHP database project. The project is a tool for Libertarian Party state affiliates to manage membership and donation reporting. Earlier, I set up a bug tracker so that we could prioritize changes and updates as well as formalize the development process of what was a single developer project. I tested access to the CVS repository and fixed all the little issues that always crop up, including an odd bug that involved the difference between Unix and DOS text file formats.
I also got to drive an hour to drop off something Whitney forgot to take to work.
That was yesterday. Today I've been coordinating with other potential developers on the project, added database entries, contacted the LP about affiliate access to the member database. I've also done some reading about JSP. I need to get back to developing a couple of Java applications I put down because I had more immediate priorities creep up.

Right, I don't blame her for not really wanting to hear about it all. My patience wears a little thin when she tells me to water the plants because she doesn't have time to do it before her massage. She isn't feeling well and had to skip her earlier appointment at the salon. I still haven't put of the pictures of our trip to Gainesville on the website.

LiveJournal was fun, but I don't have time to try to keep up with it. I'll peek in on a couple of you!

Later,
Steven Kuck
