Even if you forget about someone, they continue to exist. They go on with their lives without you. And you can find them again, eleven years later, and realize that the little Polaroid in your head has virtually no bearing on this new adult who only faintly resembles the fresh-faced kid you once knew. You can vainly try to "catch up", although even the hare would lose if the tortoise had a decade's head start. You can reminisce about 1998 and make a pastiche of that summer.
But it might not be worth it. Maybe better to leave your Polaroid intact (they tend to fade if brought too close to the present) and let that kid get on with his life, as you get on with yours.
