The Longest Journey: Chapter 2, Part 3!

Mar 11, 2008 12:54

I'll post part 3 relatively soon MY ASS. Aflsdkhga I am the world's biggest procrastinator. Well, next week is Spring Break for me, so I might be able to get some significant work done ... if I'm not at my friend's house playing Brawl the entire time.

SO HERE WE ARE. PART THREE. The end of Chapter 2 at long, long last. Finally, things will get even more interesting, and the cliffhangers shall ... probably get a lot worse.

Prologue: A Lion is in the Streets
Chapter One: Penumbra - Part One, Part Two, Part Three
Chapter Two: Through the Looking Glass - Part One, Part Two, Part Three (You Are Here)

Once again, lots and lots of images. People with slower connections should ... make a sandwich or something. Maybe learn Sanskrit.

LAST TIME WE WALKED THE EARTH TOGETHER: We wandered the city of Marcuria and became a map-vendor's errand boy. Now we're hunting down Captain Nebevay of the White Dragon to deliver his map. We have, in fact, met this man before ...

It's Captain Jerkass.

I can't read your language. It appears to be in the shape of a dragon.

Keryoink.

Woah, he tips. You're not so bad anymore, Captain Jerkass. Ah, but there's one more thing ...

And you called me stupid.

Memories of Rurouni Kenshin ... surfacing ...

The day I hear a truly religious person say that, I will laugh. Anyway, there must be a reason he won't sign away his name. If he's really so religious, he wouldn't blame organized religion. HMM ...

I'VE GOT YOU NOW.

BADUM-CHHH

yes. No. YES. NO.

I thought you said he was untrickab -- oooh, distract him. That's entirely different.

YOUR CIRCULAR LOGIC CANNOT DEFEAT ME. I TOO KNOW OF THIS CIRCULAR LOGIC, AND SHALL USE IT AGAINST YOU.

He's a paragon of virtue, innee.

And now, onward to the search for musical instruments! Let's head back toward the city. There were some vendors just outside the city gates. The one closest to the walls themselves will sell you a musical instrument.

The vendor communicates only through musical sounds. This is very hard to capture via screenshots, so please enjoy my textual interlude.

*fweedleyfweee*

*trill*

*boiyoiyoiyoiyoing*

HERE. TAKE MY ONLY AREN. *snif*

*fweeyoo*

BACK TO THE CAPTAIN

This is an amazing piece of graphical work. It's just ... you can't even begin to comprehend the beauty of it with a mere screenshot. Go out. Buy the game. Be amazed by the WONDER that is Captain Jerkass drawing an X on a piece of paper and April very badly playing the flute.

Hooray! Our mission has been completed!

And now, for amusement's sake, let's take a look at that list of people we're supposed to be delivering to.

I WILL CUT BACK ON THE CONSONANTS WHEN YOU CUT BACK ON YOUR ABUSE OF THE WORD 'LIKE'. Anyway, back to the map vendor.

lulz, stupidity.

And now for a very long interlude of absolutely nothing but dialogue. I debated a bit on whether or not to screencap this entire thing, and decided to in the end. I hope you will enjoy it.

This is off to a wonderful start.

Wait, what are we --

Oh, cultural differences.

ELEPHANTS ON THE RAMPAAAAAAGE

Were this game made by Squeenix, I imagine you would have actually had to go through the entire city to get there. Fortunately for us, this game was made in Norway.

O hai thar, Rolling Man.

... *snicker*

PLOT DEVELOPMENT sort of AHEAD

Alcohol: the one connection between all spaces, times, and universes.

BREAK

O rly nao.

Wait for it ...

HOSHI --

Very egregious. Very egregious indeed.

Well, darn. No help there. Let's go. I missed the screenshot of her just walking away, but once you get to the leaving edge ...

Yay! We have a watch! An enigma wrapped in a riddle wrapped in a puzzle wrapped in a broken watch.

A small hole. What do we have that could work in a small hole? That's right. That useless pin we got from the corkboard in the first chapter. Click it on the watch.

HOLY CRAP

And through the shift we go! WHEEEEEEE WE'RE GOING HOOOOOOME

Woah, he's been here the whole time?

Comforting. We have no effect on the world, no matter what we do.

That's what SHE said!

Magic is finding out where babies come from when you're 12.

Don't be a wuss, April. >\

A game which sets out its goals and aims for them immediately. No sidequests, no distractions, no excess or extras ... AT LONG LAST.

I skipped the vast majority of these out of sanity's sake, but fortunately, April sums them all up quite pleasantly.

Destiny. Gotta love that word.

We don't actually have a choice in the matter. Just thought I should tell you that.

We get to deal with artistic gangsters. GOOD TIMES!

Enjoy yourself, he says ... well, there's only about one place we can go do that. To the Fringe Cafe!

Have a sit, a nice relaxing sit in a real couch. Emma will come in and join us shortly ...

O SHI --

I like the way you think, madam.

CHAPTER ALTERING ALERT CHAPTER ALTERING ALERT. This actually changes the beginning of the next chapter, and I think the rest of the dialogue for the end of this one, but it's not critical what you do. No extra or unusual cutscenes, just a choice between doing what you want and doing what you think you should.

DAMN YOU, KANT

Great to hear that from you, Emma.

AND THAT'S
THE CHAPTER'S END.

What will happen next time? Will we meet up with this artistic gangster? Will we actually go to Hope Street? Will we found out who or what Cortez REALLY is? Will April wind up killing Zack on the date? TUNE IN AND FIND OUT NEXT TIME.

Hopefully, I'll have the next parts up sooner. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play Brawl next door until my brains leak out my ears.

the longest journey
