I'm frustrated that my aunt didn't take much with her when she evacuated Bolivar Peninsula. Now her neighborhood looks like this and this.

My cousin lost her house too and will be making her fresh start in Austin. It looks like my sister and mom have plans to help my cousin and aunt get back on their feet, which is good, because I was thinking I could spare only $300 or so.

Better, fewer photos from the LA Times site

If any of you has extra household items that you've been meaning to get rid of (towels, kitchen supplies, toiletries), I'd love to take them and send them to my family, as we're trying to help them get two new households set up. Furniture would help too, because my mom is driving through the bay area in a couple of weeks with her truck and could haul some things back to her sister. Or if you have girly stuff you don't want anymore, like earrings or cute hair things, I'm sure it would bring a smile to their faces!
