reversing the trend.......
while i'm here there is one thing i do not and never had understood. I've seen a lot of posts blasting laptop artists and how computers have ruined music and i'm sorry but that is bollocks, and instrument is what you make of it and a laptop is no less of an instrument than a guitar or someone with the latest £2000 access. And to be honest if you apply it properly it can be that second pair of hands you wish you had [when was the last time you where able to play a synchopated piano piece with filer sweeps running through it] or it can play drums at speeds i'm fairly sure no human is capable of [cos i'm yet to see the person who can play a 1/96 drum roll for a bar and go into a timestretch] i play my synths in realtime when i'm recording because yeah some faults in that sound good and add a groove to the track but i write ambient and shit like that is what its all about. when i play live [with modulate or other wise because thats how i'm rigged for it now] i play percussion that is set up on 2bar slices of glitch pattern accross 4 channels in ableton because it looks better and can be so much more expressive , granted its no groovebox but thats the point. A laptop can be whatever you want it to be music wise and that is the beauty of them. Anyone who says electronic music is fake is full of shit. The people who play it might be but you can tell with relative ease i mean i just saw a band play "live" who did nothing but fart around in sound forge with a wav and wave their hand nonchalantly over an air fx pad [and they where a band of a certain "reputation"]now that was bollocks but at the same time i've seen artist who you can tell they are mixing stuff up playing 3 songs in a row but not the right parts in the right songs and shock horror where not faking in the slightest. I'd certainly rather see someone diving into thier laptop but obviously hitting shit than some toss pot who can twang two strings and call himself an artist [long story i was one of 2 synth players in a room full of guitarists @ college, when was the last time you read sheet music boys?] At there are fakers and yes they get on my tits too but then there are some of us who do play live so there :P
