We will technically be staying in Lynnwood.

I'm sorry. ;) (I grew up in Shoreline)

The space needle is a ripoff ($10 to go to the observation deck); but I hear it is a better deal to just go to the overpriced, mediocere restaurant and hang out for an hour while the room spins (literally) rather than pay to just go up to the top.

The Columbia Tower (the tallest black office building downtown) has an observation deck on the 70-something floor that costs about $5. I haven't been but you should get an awesome view of downtown, Mt. Ranier, and the shipyards in the south end (which I find pretty cool); so it may be worth considering.

If you haven't been to the Pacific Northwest before, I'd recommend going out to one of the state parks. Of the ones I've visited, I found Orcas Island to be especially great, and you can day hike or drive to the top of Mt. Constitution (~2500ft) for a beautiful, 360deg view of the area. You also get to ride a ferry which is also pretty fun if you haven't before. It leaves from Anacortes which is about 30mins North of Lynwood.

Another great spot to visit is Alkai Point in West Seattle. It is a strip of beach lined with little shops and provides an awesome view of the city at dusk.

If you like beer, I'd recommend going to Brouwers in Fremont or Die BierStube in Ravenna for Belgian or German beers. You could spend a year at Brouwers and still not get through their entire menu while Die BierStube has a small but tasty selection of German brews. If you go to an ordinary local restaurant, I recommend you order a Mack and Jack's; it's one of my favorites and I've found its flavor to be pretty distinct.
