not so much of a good thing...

the Harvey Milk High School - the first ever public high school for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students...

i saw in big letters this morning "Gay High" on the NY Post....so they have this story about the program who have expanded to become an actual school, starting with 100 kids this year...

first impression....hhmmm, interesting...this is great...

after a few more minutes of careful thought...

i know that homosexual kids get bashed a lot in schools, but is it necessary to separate them from the so-called "normal" kids?
i wouldn't want to be placed in a different school just because i am gay,
that is merely admitting that something is wrong with who and what i am....another way of putting a label on myself
have we given up on trying to educate people about homesexuality, so much to the point of segregating ourselves?
is it really necessary to isolate gay kids?
shouldn't there be more efforts on stricter rules against bashing, more informative and educational classes regarding homosexuality and sex...

i am sure that it will be beneficial for the kids to be with other gay kids so they can find themselves and feel more confident...but what happens when they step out of the real world? are they gonna have gay colleges as well? and gay workplaces?
bashers will be there all the time, and i think that high school (regular high schools that does not separate based on sexuality) is a good place to learn how to survive in this world..

"What next? Maybe we should have schools for chubby kids who get picked on. Maybe all kids who wear glasses should have special schools. It's ridiculous," - State Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long

i totally agree with his message

one more thing, so what if a student in this school realized that he/she is straight?
does he/she get kicked out? or perhaps will be forced to try to become gay?

im not too sure of what will come out of this
