You may or may have not notice this little tendency of mine. It's nothing big really, nothing harmful, too. Most of the time it just makes me the odd one out in the group and costs me dearly in fanfics and icons missed. This bad habit of mine is watching everything that comes out on the screens - movies, TV series, anime - after a year or four of waiting.
I've done that with lots of movies. Like this week, I watched The Last King of Scotland, being probably the last person on Earth to finally do so. Consequently, it comes as no surprise that it took me over two years to finally finish watching this classic.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
I think I don't have to introduce this anime so let me tell you about how it felt to finish watching it after all this time. I still love it as much as before. With amazing design and riveting plot it deserves all the prises that it gathered. I stopped watching after I saw the 14th episode of second series and during those last three days I finally finished it. I still love almost all of the characters (sorry, Euphemia, Nunally and Nina) and those who I dislike were even bearable. My most beloved characters, like Lelouch, were still as brilliant as ever.
This was really one of the best anime I've ever watched, don't be fulled by the fact I didn't come back to it sooner. The characters were crazy, funny, lovely and chivalrous. The plot was surprising and void of cliché's. The story showed that not all is black and white, in fact, most of the world is covered in shades of grey.
But most of all I loved Lelouch. He's the ultimate perfect character for me. He's a genius. He has his ambitions. He's not afraid to cross the line, to lie, to destroy. Not once did he try to explain that the Massacre at the end of first season wasn't what he intended. Not once did he try to explain that it was his Geass that went crazy. He didn't run away from guilt - he shouldered all his sins and made new ones, so the new world could come. Lelouch is perfect as a character who inspires loyalty (Kallen, Jeremiach, Sayoko), a guy who nevered had a true love interest but cared for some girls (Kallen, C.C., Shirley) and was loved by even more.
Sunrise studio really did create something beautiful. Part of success is, of course, due to collaboration with CLAMP, but mostly it was due to the power of the story, itself, and how far the studio went with it's fanservice. For example the story released by CLAMP, which describes scenes from the time between the death of the Emperor and the Zero Requiem
Code Geass x CLAMP:Mutuality. And there are all those lovely graphics released specially to please the fans of this franchise.Let's look at them now and remember the good old times, yes?
And here's something for a happy ending. Have one of my fav characters:
