I've entered the game of pricks with knives in the back of me

It's been some time since a proper update, so one's in order, I suppose.

Christmas was a rough time for me, which is pretty much par for the course at this point.  My retail job has always made it difficult to enjoy the holidays to any degree, what with the crass consumerism and angry, freaked-out shoppers and all, but given the fact that I was only too anxious to sweep the past year under the rug and start fresh, there was even less to be overjoyed about.

That said, now that the madness is ended for another year, I've been getting some time to enjoy the new apartment (or 'flat', as the distinctly un-British Cameron prefers) and finding myself feeling quite at home.  It's been a long time coming, but I feel very comfortable here.  I adore the place, but I'm also really liking the neighbourhood, and I could actually see myself settling here one day if the funds ever cooperated.

Cameron, meanwhile, is proving to be about the most fantastic roommate a person could ever ask for.  He's ridiculously polite, incredibly considerate, and obsessed with doing dishes so frequently that I rarely get a chance to even consider it before he's up and finished them.  We've got very similar personalities, as well, so there's been much gaming, jamming and laughter.  He introduced me to Arrested Development, belatedly, and I was able to return the favour with Hot Fuzz.  We also share a great love and Soundgarden and Soul Coughing.

Cam also arranged to get us a cat, because apparently we needed more living things in this house.  She's a beautiful, affectionate stray that a friend of his grandmother's discovered on his farm, and despite her desire to try and sneak outside constantly (she was living there, after all), she's working out marvelously.  We call her Maddy.

I've been miserably sick for the past couple of days with a nasty cold.  I'd been fighting it off for the better part of the last month, and then at work yesterday it just knocked me on my ass.  I've also been feeling a little depressed.  It might be the cold or it might be the typical career dissatisfaction rearing its head like clockwork, but regardless, it's there, and I guess I've been fighting that off, as well.

I'm trying to get a little more guitar in these days, as well, so I think I'm about due.  Over and out for now.
