we live in pretty interesting times:
- the most active election cycle (in my memory)
- two states are effectively not being allowed to participate in their elections
- the economy is in more trouble than most people think
- we are involved in an unpopular, extremely costly (both financial and in terms of human lives) war on foreign soil, and losing
