Random thought
Why do they sell single cold beers next to the register at the gas station when it's illegal to have an open container in your car? Do they want people to break the law? They can't honestly expect you to go home before you drink it, otherwise they would't make sure it was cold.

Maybe it's some obscure "gas station rule" like stores have "store rules" that nobody knows why they are there.
