Wilco

Mar 21, 2006 00:19

I'm a-goin' to see Wilco tomorrow night (or tonight, depending on how you look at it). As I said earlier, I'm probably even more excited about seeing the related side project, the Autumn Defense, at an in-store performance before the big show ( Read more... )

GRR, I've never seen them! Give some of those to me 'cause I don't have any!

Actually, what's the best way to know who's playing where if you don't want to visit the websites of dozens of artists you're interested in and try to keep track? I haven't seen any music since I've been in Orlando, mostly because I have no idea who's coming to Florida. Every once in awhile I try to find out but without much success. How do you do it?

If that were possible, I would.

The easiest way to find out about upcoming shows in your area is to search for your city on Pollstar.com. I'm sure Orlando gets some good shows--in fact, I flew there once when Buzzcocks were wrapping up their U.S. tour with three dates in Florida.

Pollstar should have most of the shows in your area listed. However, because I'm obsessed and like to be thorough, I also have a folder full of links for sites of local clubs and bands. Once or twice a month, I go into Firefox and select the option to open all of those links in new tabs.

Remember when they were their own roadies? That sure was a long time ago. I'm not really that interested in them anymore, but I will say that they put on a hell of a show at Wakarusa last year. (My being right at the lip of the stage no doubt boosted my opinion, though.)

It was a long damn time ago. If I remember right, that Bottleneck show was before they even had an album out.

Yup. It was actually their second show ever as Wilco (at that point it was still basically UT - Jay Farrar + Jay Bennett).

I didn't realize it was just their second show. That's kind of an amazing thing to have seen, when you think about it.

Jeff does look younger on that flyer.

I'm really disappointed I can't see Autumn Defense with you.

The phone now has a battery!

I'm really disappointed that you can't see the Autumn Defense with me, too.

Good news about the phone. Now let's hope it works better.

Hey, do you keep your shows list where people may see it? If yes, I wanna see!

Also, what is a Wilco--is that some kind of car or something?

The list is held privately on my home computer. I used to have it out in the public, when I had a website.

A "wilco" is a word said after "Roger" that means "will comply."

I was just teasing about the car thing, like, "Radiohead? What's a Radiohead? What are these kids mumbling about?" But I did not know Wilco's actual meaning...so thank you. :)

If I feel up to it, I'll be at AD tonight. Lyn took the day off, so I ended up driving alone anyway.
