It was sort of difficult to help in mothering John when one had no idea how to go about it. Dave had lost both his parents fairly early on, and Bro wasn't exactly the best at mothering when he'd been sick. At least he could observe Aradia and Kanaya flitting in and out, and occasionally Gamzee ambling in to drug John up, and see what they might have needed for their next rounds.

He visited throughout the first week, when he could, but John was pretty much out of it so it wouldn't have surprised him if their leader couldn't remember a damn thing about it. (It mostly involved Dave idly talking to him, playing music here and there for him before absconding to hide away the guitar he'd dug out before anyone else saw him with it.) The second week, he was... well, they'd been fairly busy then, hadn't they.

But he made his way to John's room at the end of the second week, beginning of the third, and nudged the door open before actually slipping in. Seeing his friend laying there just served to remind him of the horns that'd come through, the nauseousness that'd struck him, and how he was running out of tanned skin.

"Hey."

John wasn't sleeping but he was laying there mostly sore and tired. At least his body stopped throwing such a fit by now. He wasn't leaning over and horking his guts anymore and he wasn't growing any weird appendages. His horns weren't fully sized but they'd broken through the skin at that was usually the worse part.

He blinked a bit at the voice and turned his head just a bit with a smile. Maybe he'd been mostly delusional for that first week, but he did remember Dave. He remembered the conversations and the music and like Karkat, he was probably one of the reasons he even survived.

"Hey."
