whales without legs

Just finished reading The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, and it's ABSOLUTE LOVE. I have been reading wonderful books lately, but this one just about beats all so far. For one thing, it deals with my second most favorite topic (next to Immortality, yes, I am a weirdo), which is CLONING (ARGHLOVE). The characters are beautifully fleshed out and believable, and the writing is without fault. Seriously. There is no instance when I can say, oh, she could have done this better or her word choice is a little off. It's perfect, and effortless. You can see there's no strain on the language. The plot has an amazing number of twists and elements but you can still follow everything. And I haven't read much science fiction, but for once this simplifies things instead of complicating them. I can totally see it coming true. (Hand in hand with Huxley's Brave New World. Oh my.) Also, for a completely shallow reason, this actually makes me feel a little bit better about Spanish classes. I mean, I can, er, recognize phrases. Yay?

I mean to write a better review for that eventually, so, yes. ^^ We'll see.
