...Think he'll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, cant
Move a rubber tree plant
But hes got high hopes! hes got high hopes,
Hes got high apple pie, in the sky hopes!
I don't know why houseplants have suddenly appealed to me. I picked up this dieing baby aloe plant when I was purchasing some geraniums, and within a couple hours of having re-pot and watered the thing, it was completely revitalized and thriving.
Then there was the half dead African Violet for $1. It now has more suckers (babies) than I know what to do with (seeing as I don't know how to transfer suckers in the first place) and an absolutely ridiculous amount of little white and purple flowers. I got it because it was $1 fully expecting it to simply die. Now that it's turned into some sort of freaky superplant, I have no idea what to do!
Then the $1 spider plant! This little plant was WAY WAY too big for it's container, it had roots coming out the bottom at least 5" long, it had pushed most of the dirt out of the pot it had so many roots wrapped around so many times! And yet despite being a neglected walmart plant, this little dude decided to not only stay alive, but to be healthy and thrive enough to have produced a stem full of flowers and a baby plant on the end! It's rockin an appropriately sized pot right now.
And then the rubber tree plant pictured above! It's a burgendy variety, so it's supposed to be that colour (as opposed to the dark rich green). Two of the leaves are yellowing and turning brown. I'm snipping them. The rest of the plant is rich and full and healthy, I think it was just underwatered at the store and the older growth is suffering for it.
I paid $9 for that thing, rather than the $1 trend I had going on. Still a decent price for a plant that size!
Once I get a bit of money together I want to pick up some good sized black rubber or plastic pots with lots of good drainage to repot everything, and some big beautiful (or perhaps tacky) painted ceramic pots! Clay and plastic just aren't doing it for me.
Now the real trick. Lets see if I can keep everything alive for more than a couple months!
