Important message regarding site hacking and passwords.
Overnight there was some rumours that a Sims 3 Custom Content website was hacked and it's user database, containing email addresses, usernames and passwords was leaked to the internet. I saw the list of usernames (no email addresses or passwords) on Tumblr last night but that post has since been removed, which is frustrating as I was not able to see if any of my usernames was compromised.
Can I please ask all of my Livejournal friends to please take a look at the following information that was posted on The Sims Daily regarding passwords and to please go and change all of your passwords and ensure you are not using your personal email address for any site registrations - go and make a fake one at Gmail, it's totally free!
If you cannot come up with a good, strong password on your own, you can visit
Gibson Research Corporation for randomly-generated, very secure passwords. Please read through the page for some good information on how his passwords are generated, why it's important, etc.
All modern browsers will remember your passwords for you. This is great if you connect to secure or private networks all the time. Thus, you don't have to worry about remembering such passwords and typing them in all the time, they'll be remembered for you.
I can also recommend that you find a free or cheap "password safe" where you can keep all your separate passwords in an easy-to-use database that is locked with one main password.
My suggestion is a last name (maybe a maiden name, or a mom's maiden name, or a family name way back in the line), spelled backwards, with a capital in it somewhere, and a date that is meaningful to you (not your birth year, preferably, something else maybe, like your parents' anniversary or something a bit less directly personal).
Eg. Say I have "Brown" in my family line as a last name, and my grandfather was born in 1901. I might make my main password "Nworb1901" or "19Nworb01" or something similar. You can even add a character like $ % # @ & ^ or what have you to add an extra bit of randomness.
